Saturday started out a little slow. I tried to sleep in but just ended up tossing and turning. I finally crawled out of bed, made a cup of tea and popped down to the Farmer’s Market to get my Good Golly Tamale fix for the week. They have the best tamales and if you haven’t tried them you need to. We discussed what we might do later in the evening and tossed around staying home or going out. We were tired from the night before and thought we might pick up some carryout and watch TV. We ate a little lunch and then I decided I needed a nap. I woke up feeling refreshed and decided that it was too pretty of a day to stay in. After a short discussion we decided to clean up a bit and drive over to Bearden Beer Market. We had talked about it with Sam and Emjay the night before and it was on my mind. I sent Emjay a quick text to see what it was like on a Saturday night and she responded that they were currently on the way there. That sealed the deal. We fed the dog and headed out the door.
Oddly enough Sam had his endless cooler of joy. First out was Jack the Sipper by Southern Prohibition Brewing. A nice malty ESB. It was turning into a good night. Jen and Aaron from Crafty Bastard were there along with Joy. She had her own cooler of beer to share. Next Sam pulled out this Devil’s Harvest APA, also Southern Prohibition Brewing. It was very tasty, nicely hopped. Joy brought Tripel Kanunnik by Brouwerj Wilderen. It was sweet with a hint of apricot! Thanks Joy!!
She also brought this La Terroir (Lips of Faith) by New Belgium Brewing Conpany. I was excited to try it and certainly was not disappointed. It is an American Wild Ale with a nice funk. It had a peach flavor and was perfectly tart. Thanks again to Joy!!
We also ran into Mike and Tracy Frede, the owners of Last Days of Autumn Brewing and they told me that they finally found a building. They signed the lease the night before so they were happy. It is on Magnolia and she said you can actually see Saw Works from the building. YAY, that means I can walk there. I can’t wait to check out the space. This is a pitcher of Weihenstephaner Original by Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan (and no, this East Tennessee dino cannot pronounce the brewery name). Yes, a pitcher. We ended up drinking a few of them. Apparently someone bought a keg for a party and didn’t finish it. WTF. Anyway, it worked out great for us, it is a perfect beer on a hot day.
Here is another good hot weather beer. Ayinger Brau Weisse by Privatbrauerei Franz Inselkammer (another German brewery name I can’t pronounce.
It was another fun night with lots of laughter and good beer.
Sunday was yet another great beer day. We met Sam and Emjay at The Casual Pint-Northshore before heading to another friends house for a cookout and to sample a beer or 2 or 3!
I also had a taste of this Lava Lake Wit from Crazy Mountain Brewing Company. If you really like chamomile tea, you will love this beer. If you don’t care for chamomile then not so much. It was not subtle at all. Jerry didn’t care for it. But being a strong believer of waste not, want not, he drank it all.
We then headed to our destination and another epic bottle share ensued. Due to some possible copyright issues, no photos will be added. I will, however, list the beers we sampled. It was pretty amazing. Our host and hostess provided us with amazing food and fun.
Icelandic Pale Ale by Einstok Olgerd
Atalanta by Orpheus Brewing
Scrimshaw Pilsner by North Coast Brewing
Toasted Coconut Brown Ale by Intracoastal Brewing Company. This beer was the reason for the gathering. The brewer is our hostess’ brother. I had heard his beer was excellent. This beer was indeed excellent and is reason enough to take a trip to Florida.
Paulaner Original by Paulaner Gruppe
Mexican Cake by Westbrook Brewing Co. Awesome beer with the perfect amount of pepper on the tongue.
Medora by Wicked Weed Brewing
Ville De Rivere Geuze (2014) by Rivertown Brewing and Barrel House
Retro Red Ale by Lone Peak Brewing
Cold Smoke by Kettlehouse Brewing Company
Yellow Rose by Lone Pint Brewery
Oude Gueze (2014) by Brouwerj De Troch
More Moro by Funky Buddha Brewery
Hibernal Dichotomous (Batch #1) by Jester King Brewery. Are you jealous yet? Sam kept disappearing upstairs and a few minutes later a timer would go off. He want back up and took the beer out of the freezer and brought it back down. It was crazy fun!
Biere De Miel by Jester King Brewery. The Jester King beers were incredible!
We discovered this awesome hat that is apparently being held for ransom. #caseofbeer! I thought we would be home by 10:00 or so. Thank goodness we took Monday off. I’m not sure what time we got home but I think it was after 1:00 AM. Poor Emjay had to get up and go to work the next morning. UGH! Everyone was exhausted from laughing and talking and it was another awesome night of the mini staycation! I’m going to have to go back to work so I can get some rest!
Monday was a fairly quiet day. We got up a little late, took the dog out for a stroll and headed over to Flow A Brew Parlor for coffee and pastries. This tart was amazing. I wish I could eat one every day!!
We enjoyed lunch at The Tomato Head. I had to have the Oh Boy with tofu again. So good. I enjoyed an Ananda by Wiseacre Brewing Co. I also had a Dale’s Pale Ale by Oskar Blues. You can’t go wrong with that one!
